Whether you're brainstorming new ideas, searching for the heart of your story, trying to conjure up a scene, revising, or getting to know your characters, meditation can help. No meditation experience necessary. All you need to know how to do is breathe, and I know you can all do that.
Guided meditation, followed by free writing sessions, will help you build a richer, deeper connection to your characters and your stories.
I studied Transcendental Meditation in high school, and I've been meditating off and on ever since. It was natural for me when I started writing to incorporate meditation into my writing practice. I use meditation to get to know my characters, conjure scenes, come up with plot ideas, and even revise.
I've taught these meditations at regional SCBWI conferences, at the Highlights Foundation, and to critique groups. Writers and illustrators always tell me how helpful they are, especially in uncovering hidden depths to their characters.
I'm working on a Teachable course to share these techniques more widely. In the meanwhile, feel free to let me know you'd like to be on my meditation list. I'll send you a sample meditation to help you uncover character and I'll be in touch when I do more with meditation.
You can also invite me to teach at your local SCBWI or to your critique group.
